Social Media How To’s and Top Tips

Welcome to December

Here we are, the last month of 2021 and this will totally fly by as a majority of people will be off over the Christmas period. I myself will be shutting up shop from the 22nd, when my children finish school for the year.

I hope you made it to the Monday Morning Marketing Podcast Workshop. We had such a laugh and learned loads and loads from these spectacular speakers. I will never forget what each of these speakers did for us and genuinely appreciate their time and support. Myself and Esther will definitely do another one and will announce some stage in the New Year. We are setting up an email list you can subscribe too, so watch this space!

Let's see what our Social Media Gods have in store for us today shall we?

Facebook

What to Post on Facebook

I found this post and the mention of it in Amanda Webb's Digital Coffee fascinating. We all know the best content to post on Facebook is paid for content but the next best is always videos / going live right?  So what's the next ones to post?  Well apparently not links. In this blog post the writer of the blog post outlines what Facebook themselves have worked out and it seems mindless yet effective posts that get people to contribute one or two words do a whole lot better than sharing links to your website.

I guess it makes sense to a large extent. Facebook have always been the jealous sort and don't like sharing us, their users with anyone else. Get yourself a cuppa and read Social Media Today's blog post and see if time you changed up your posting?

FaceOff

Yep, they are getting rid of Face Recognition in the coming weeks. They have noticed a societal shift and feel that at this time its not helping their brand or their consumer so have decided to delete over a billion templates. Check out the news update from them here.

Instagram

How Many Hashtags - Answered - Finally

Around mid month of last month Later.com put out a report on their findings of 18 million posts and they firmly established we should be using EVERY hashtag we could. Yep, we should use all 30 as often as possible.

Now this flies in the face of everything that Instagram have ever told us and especially this year. There's no particular reason why they have said to only use 5 that we have a good record of at this time but it could mean they just want people to be more specific on how they manage their hashtags. Either way, until I find out otherwise, I am going to be using them all. Read the report / blog and decide for yourself.

Creator Badges

Monetising your brand using Instagram as a Creator is now being rolled out more extensively. You've probably seen some of your favourite creators overseas using it for a bit now but now its being pushed a little more directly, first in the US. Who knows how long it will be before they progress this over the pond to us but its definitely something to look forward to in 2022 I would imagine. Read more about this update in this blog post from The Verge.

Highlight Covers Gone Awry?

A recent update that happened around mid month sent all the original images packing for some reason and although Instagram went to some pains to not comment on it, a few fans worked out a fix pretty much in the same day. So if you're feeling a little frustrated about this, then check out the suggestions in this post and see if you can update this back again.

Google Business Profile

Another Rebrand! (No new logo apparently??)

So Facebook did it, so why not Google My Business? For those of you who have existing GMB Profiles, nothing has vastly changed to be fair. There are a few up sides that have been outlined in the blog post below but not enough to affect you're every day to day usage of it.

For those of you brand new to Google Business Profile, if anything its got even easier to use. This tool is like another social profile but this one helps you directly build Search Engine Optimisation and helps you get found in search. If you would like to learn more about this FREE tool that you really only need to post to once a week to make it effective, then please read this blog.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn Newsletters

Everyone is hopping on board the newsletter train now. Twitter started it a while back and now its LinkedIn's turn to widen it out to a larger audience too during it's pilot. Our recent speaker Louise Brogan shared a blog last month detailing how you should use them and how to access them. There is quite a strict access level so it wont be for everyone but its a great model to attract a more decisive audience. See if you can access it by checking out her blog here.

Clubhouse

Record and Replay

A new tool alert was out early this month for Clubhouse. This is going to completely change Clubhouse for the positive as making it possible to record and listen back to conversations will definitely widen its audience.

This platform has had to grow up so quickly in the last 18 months (it only launched in April 2020) so the innovation has been swift in comparison to it's competitors. These Replays as they are called then then be shared widely outside of the platform and even saved to a club or a persons profiles. I can foresee a resurgence of interest in this platform as it has waxed and waned a little as some conversations are happening in a different time zone and FOMO has been a real issue. Hopefully this can potentially resolve this issue. Learn more in this update from TechCrunch.
