Social Media How To’s and Top Tips

Threads, X and GA4 all made an appearance this month. I guess not all business owners like taking July off eh? Read on to learn more.

Welcome to August

This will only be a brief one this month unfortunately as I spent 2 weeks off in a rather boiling, hot Athens, Greece. I spent most of my time there being exhausted from the heat during the midday and walking around the amazing places of interest the rest of the time. We were leaving Athens just as the fires started about 50 km outside of it before any of the islands caught fire as well. Very grateful we did and terribly sorry for those that didn't.

This month I shall mostly be getting ready for my youngest starting Secondary and hopefully finding my second wind!

Let's see what's been happening with the socials shall we? Let's get started:

Facebook

Is the Meta Pixel Going?

This shook me up when I saw this in a post from Jon Loomer recently. I can't embed this link as it's a YouTube Short, but please check it out. In it we hear about the conversation that Jon had with a Meta Rep. This is definitely something to watch out for in the coming months. Least this company gives a bit of notice when it come to big changes https://www.youtube.com/shorts/e4N7o23e3OE

Threads

Another Way to Talk

This exploded into existence early July and shocked everyone how quickly it was adopted. Threads is not yet available in the Republic of Ireland or other EU countries due to concerns over GDPR and privacy rules. Its set to take over Twitter or whatever he wants to call it this month once it is available in Europe however. The only objection I have now is that Meta have so much of our data now they are set to rival Google in what they know about us and I wonder have they learned from Cambridge Analytica?

Once it's available here I'll of course share it in this round up but for now we need to just watch how others are getting rid of all the inevitable kinks out of this new tool and see if it survives long enough for us to try. If you can however sign up to it now then please click this link to learn how.

Instagram

Insta Death

There was a LOT of frustration with Instagram last month. It was extremely glitchy and kept crashing frequently for people all over the world but this is of course likely connected to the start of Threads. Even if you didn't have Threads, you would still be impacted by crashes, most annoyingly.

In this blog they outline a few suggestions to get it restarted. Check it out here.

Instagram Sticker Codes for Unique Stories

That was a bit of a mouthful wasn't it, but I came across this blog earlier last month and thought you might find it useful. There is such creativity available to us if you only knew where to look. Read this blog and be prepared to try something new.

LinkedIn

Messaging for Company Pages

My good friend and specialist in LinkedIn, Louise Brogan shared an update towards the end of last month about this new change that will be gradually rolling out. In a way its good of course, but it does also mean there's some where else you need to check now on top of all your other notifications, yay!

There is some conditions to having it and I've just checked to see if I have this facility and I do, so read Louise's blog here and see if you have it also.

Twitter / X / TwiX

Twitter Blue - Month Four

Meh - this is crap. Now that Threads have come along I've lost even more followers and granted, I admit, justifiably so. The ongoing nosedive is no fun though.

I did notice however, that last month X had changed the analytics and are giving it a bit of a revamp. This is likely because Elon wants to make it an "everything-app". There is a beta version that I looked at and it was alright - frankly it looks a lot like the old one in larger text and slightly different graphs but I'm not afraid of change. Check it here to see your own: https://twitter.com/i/account_analytics.

If you look slightly down from these stats you can click into detailed analytics and they look the same as before but who knows that might change again.

Download Video's If You're Twitter Blue Subscriber

Finally a perk that I genuinely find useful! Only last week it was announced that those chosen few can download any videos created and repurpose happily for other things. Is it worth the payment? For me, not yet but lets see what else he comes up with. Now that Elons TwiX has to contend with Threads, I might not renew next year...

YouTube

YouTube Shorts and Tools

As ever the amazing writers at Social Media Examiner put together a great update of YouTube about both Shorts and tools that can benefit us marketing out business. Check out the details in this link.

TikTok

TikTok Will be Competing with Twitter, Threads - New Version coming soon!

Hey why not, everyone else is doing it right? The only subtle difference between them though is that TikTok are now planning to do this within the current app and not creating a whole new one. Just imagine the money and resources this is saving!

I feel my Twitter Blue payment is entirely stupid now. Between these two, I'm likely to lose a lot more followers now and I will likely have to work that much harder to get and retain my followers. Maybe Twitter, X or whatever it is now will no longer be a viable platform for my business. It shouldn't be this hard to keep it going!

Google Business Profile

To Add or Remove Your Business Address, that is the Question...

Some times following the advice from these companies, isn't a good idea. You may have been told to remove your business address because you don't have a shop or place that customers can come to. However, in this test case provided by Joy Hawkins, she has provided some excellent reasons why removing or never having an address in the first place has had a significant impact on her clients business online. Learn more about this in this blog.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics 4 has Arrived

In a bid to improve Google Analytics, there is always going to be people who don't like the latest update. just out the beginning of July. A lot of the problems their experiencing is because they don't like change and having to relearn this all over again but some of it is also down to "issues" they have found with it too. Check out this blog and see if you agree?

Google Analytic Alternatives

I have to be honest here, until I came across this I had no idea there were so many! So if you're really hating on the latest update, you maybe interested in considering one of these instead?
